Govt concludes withdrawal of Missang forces in Bissau

Luanda - The Angolan government announced on Friday in Luanda that it concluded fully the withdrawal of Missang forces in the territory of Guinea Bissau.

According to a press note from the Angolan government, which reached Angop, the process included a complete withdrawal by sea and air of all military personnel, as well as all military equipment and techniques of Missang.

The document also reads that the withdrawal, which finished at 12 p.m on Friday, was the culmination of the unilateral decision taken by the Angolan government on the verge of predictable political and constitutional changes that ended with the military coup d'état on 12
April in 2012 in Guinea Bissau.

“Despite not having accomplished the programme foreseen in the agreement and protocol, for reasons beyond its control, the Angolan government withdrew Missang with the firm and unequivocal conviction of mission accomplished”, reads the note.

So, the Angolan executive praised the commanders, militaries and administrative staff of Missang, to whom it expressed its acknowledgement for the dedication and spirit of mission accomplished.

The Angolan government thanks the Guinean people for the fraternal accommodation and hospitality reserved to Missang during its stay in Guinea Bissau.

Missang was replaced by the regional organisation Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) forces.
