Ottawa - The Angolan extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador to Canada, Agostinho Tavares, said that the April 4 has become a historical reference to the country as it marks a turning point in the political and democratic process which enables the national reconciliation and economic growth.
The diplomat stressed the importance of the date at a ceremony of socialisation promoted in Ottawa, Canada, by the local community.
The event aimed at welcoming the 10th anniversary of peace and national reconciliation in the country.
The diplomat stressed that the date represents one of the greatest gains achieved by the Angolan people, only second to the national independence, won on November 11, 1975.
He said that peace, achieved without imposition from external forces, was the result of efforts made by the Angolan people and which has provided many benefits at all levels of the social dimension.
Among the benefits, the Angolan ambassador to Canada mentioned the housing projects.
In the field of transports, the ambassador spoke of the rehabilitation of the railways which facilitates the movement and marketing of products from the countryside to the cities.
