Luanda – The Angolan Executive has been taking concrete steps concerning human rights, thanks to established mechanisms and institutions designed to ensure their full realisation.

This was said Tuesday in Luanda by the Foreign minister, Georges Chikoti, at the opening of the National Seminar on Building of Capacity of the Intersectoral Human Rights Reports Drafting Commission taking place in the Angolan capital until Thursday.

Georges Chikoti said the steps aim at a more humane society, built in a peaceful, fair and truly democratic way.

The minister added that the Angolan authorities are aware that a long way lies ahead, stressing that with the 2012 election, the country is giving evidences of the consolidation of a democratic and law-abiding State.

On the other hand, he highlighted the importance of all Angolans to have an education that enables them an awareness of their rights, so they can better contribute to the building of a rational culture of defence and promotion of human rights.

In this regard, the minister considered the seminar an aid for acquisition of knowledge by all who have the responsibility to both transit their experience in human rights basic principles and draft reports on international commitments undertaken by Angola in this field.

Georges Chikoti also considered important the reinforcement of an interactive dialogue with the civil society that has an essential role in training the populations in human rights issues.

For over three days, officials of the Intersectoral Human Rights Reports Drafting Commission (CIERDH) will be discussing the topic with the assistance of specialists in various fields of knowledge.

The opening session was witnessed by the representatives of the regional Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Marco Kalbush, and of the United Nations to Angola, Maria do Valle Ribeiro.
