Diplomat stresses importance of Ombudsman in protecting citizen rights

Luanda - The chargé d'affaires of the United Kingdom’s embassy in Angola, Andrew Bowes, Friday in Luanda, highlighted the importance of the Ombudsman in protecting the rights, freedoms of Angolan citizens.


 
The British diplomat, who spoke to the press, on the sidelines of a presentation ceremony of  the "Citizen's Guide", chaired by the Ombudsman, Paulo Tjipilica, stressed that the UK is committed to supporting human rights, democracy and good governance across the world, particularly in Angola.


 
In this context, he stated that the Ombudsman plays an essential role in the democratization process in Angola, as set out in Article 192 of the Angolan Constitution.


 
Likewise he noted that the Ombudsman has the task of ensuring that citizens are treated equally before the law, ensuring, through informal means, justice, and the legality of public administrative activity.
