Porto Amboim - Angola's history is rich with many examples and indelible acts of heroism and courage showed by thousands Angolan compatriots from the northern Cabinda to the southern Cunene provinces and sacrifice of the best csons of this homeland.
This was stated by the minister of Former Combatants and Motherland Veterans, Kundi Paihama, while addressing Saturday a central event marking the 51st anniversary of the beginning of armed struggle for national liberation.
The minister was speaking in representation of the Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.
According to the government official, it was exactly on February 4, 1961 that a handful of heroes who was inspired by the noblest ideals of social justice and without being afraid of the power and brutality of the then Portuguese colonial regime attacked the jails of the fascist police where there were imprisoned many of their compatriots.
The attack aimed at releasing political prisoners held at the time in "São Paulo" prison and the facilities of the then 7th Police Station.
It also served to obtaining firearms, in view of out breaking of struggle for national independence, he said.
Among the various Angolan protagonists of the clandestine struggle, the minister mentioned Paiva Domingos da Silva, Imperial Santana, Virgílio Soto Maior, Neves Bendinha.
The event gathered government officials, provincial governor of Kwanza Sul, Serafim do Prado, MPs, chieftains, members of civil society and others.
