Luanda – At least two hundred and sixty-five Cuban doctors may come to Angola later this year to reinforce the national health system of the country.
The Cuban ambassador to Angola, Pedro Ross Leal, announced this Wednesday at the end of an audience granted to him by the Angolan Vice President of Republic, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.
According to the ambassador Pedro Leal, the coming of the Cuban doctors depends on contract-related details, having underlined that his country is available to expand the cooperation.
The diplomat mentioned 1,300 Cuban physicians as to have already been working in 69 districts of the country's 18 provinces, as well as other 1,000 experts who are involved, along with 1,500 Angolans, in anti-vector campaign of combat and control of malaria, in 122 districts.
Pedro Ross Leal also spoke of the existence of an important plan to expand this cooperation, but the two countries cooperate toward the training of Angolan health experts.
He said that the cooperation of Cuban specialists has already led to five schools operating for the teaching of medicine, particularly in the provinces of Cabinda, Benguela, Huambo, Huila and Malanje, with a total of 2,700 students.
Other 300 scholarship beneficiaries are attending courses in Cuba.
The Cuban ambassador, who praised the Angolan government's efforts, said that the audience served to assess the visit of Vice president to Cuba, in February 2011.
