Head of State points out causes of conflicts among nations

Luanda – The Angolan head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, thursday in Luanda, said the threats and risks prevailing in all continents, particularly in some regions of the planet, are very serious.

"We all want a good and safe world for all, but the threats and risks that prevail in all continents, particularly in some regions of our planet, are very serious,” said the head of State while addressing the ceremony of new year complements with the diplomatic corps accredited to Angola.

According to the president, misunderstanding is subduing understanding among nations, because doubts and distrust take command where there is egoism and dialogue is replaced either by the force of the stronger or by the obstinacy or megalomania of the apparently weaker.

"From religion to politics or from economic interests to military and strategic interests, it is becoming difficult to build common and normal values of tolerance that enable the various human civilisations to co-habit in global harmony,” he said.

To him, religious fundamentalism and leftist and rightist radicalism are the source of most of the conflicts and tensions taking place in the political domain among nations or inside states.

He said he supports the opinion that the centre-right and centre-left political thinking and the moderate currents of religious confessions contain today the guidelines that are capable of moderating and framing the intentions or extremist whims, particularly on the part of conservative elements, through constructive initiatives of national, regional and global character that guarantee a better security and development for everyone.

As the president said, there is still a long way to go in the construction of global trust in all nations through dialogue, without fears of one to be humiliated or subdued by the other.

As a result, the head of Stated went on to say, those who are strong impose their will on others and those who are weak work to become strong and imitate or revenge themselves on the strong.

Jose Eduardo dos Santos said “the world will never be a safe world” as long as this logic prevails.

"How to reverse the logic of the thinking in the field of relations among the nations towards the construction of trust and change the world is a matter that deserves a reflection,” he added.

According to president José Eduardo dos Santos, external interference in internal affairs of sovereign states are always liable to undermine the relations and create traumas and suspicions often hard to overcome.

Therefore, the president defended that in the resolution of all crises, dialogue and understanding should always prevail over threat or use of force.

"We are not yet enjoying the times that the end of the Cold War anticipated, when we all believed that peace and world security were guaranteed and that the relations among the countries of all world would from then translate into a climate of major solidarity and cooperation in the respect for the norms and principles of International Law,” the president stated.

That, he added, would be the ideal spirit for the world to fight together for causes that benefit all humanity, like the defence of environment, the combat to drugs trafficking and organised crime, promotion of health and peaceful end of great conflicts.

"I believe that good sense will end up prevailing and that the leaders of all countries will re-assume their responsibilities as legitimate representatives elected by their respective peoples,” the Angolan head of State underlined.
