Luanda
Isaias Samakuva re-elected president of Unita

Luanda – Unita party militant Isaias Henrique Ngola Samakuva was re-elected last Friday, in Luanda, as president of Unita, Angola’s largest opposition party, for  the next four years.

The re-election happened during the party’s XI Congress, which took place in Luanda on
13-16 December, under the motto “Uniting Angola for a change in 2012”, during which Isaias Samakuva disputed the leadership of Unita with the militant Estevão José Pedro Katchiungo.

In the end of the election, Isaias Samakuva got 868 votes, equivalent to 85.6 per cent.
Speaking to the congressmen, Isaias Samakuva thanked the trust placed on him by party
members and pledged to continue working for the aggrandisement of Unita and Angola.

He also mentioned the next challenges of the party, with emphasis on the 2012 general
elections.

On his turn, Estevão José Pedro Katchiungo, who recognised his defeat, expressed his
availability to help the new leadership of the party.

He stressed that with that congress everyone wins, including the party and its militants, as well  as Angola, because that was an example of democracy.
