Huambo – A total of 85 anti-personnel landmines were cleared and destroyed during the first semester of this year by the British demining company, Hallo Trust, in central Huambo province.
This was announced on Tuesday in the region by Hallo Trust’s chief of operations, João Calundo.
During the period in respect, the company cleared 929 explosive devices from an area of 271,953 square metres, corresponding to 27 hectare of land.
This was attained jointly with the National Institute of Demining (INAD) and the Intersectoral Commission for Demining and Humanitarian Aid (CNIDAH).
The works are ongoing on with the help local populations who are giving hints about landmine fields and is focusing on agricultural fields, bridges, roads and along electricity conveying lines.
