Luanda - The chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Guinea-Bissau, lt. Gen. Antonio Ndjai, arrived Saturday afternoon in Luanda for a five day-day working visit aiming at the reinforcement of cooperation in the military sector.
According to the high ranking officer, who was speaking to the press soon after arriving in Luanda, the bilateral cooperation will mainly focus on reform and renewal of Guinea Bissau armed forces.
The chief of Staff of Guinea-Bissau troops, at the head of a delegation, said that he has come to Angola to look for help to implement some projects in the sector of training of officers in order to improve those two sectors of the country’s armed forces toward the consolidation of peace in that African country.
According to the officer, the military mission he leads “has come to Angola under the historical relations of friendship existing between Guinea Bissau and Angola created by former presidents Agostinho Neto and Amílcar Cabral”.
On the occasion, the source said that the armed forces of his country need help of its Angolan Armed Forces (FAA) counterpart and its government to serve Guinea Bissau “in this complex process of reforming the armed forces (…), because we believe that with bilateral cooperation some thing can be done”.
During the five day-visit, António Indjai and his delegation will meet with FAA high ranking military officers, Defence Ministry officials and will also visit some barracks and military schools.
Angola and Guinea-Bissau have been developing “excellent” cooperation, either in the bilateral sphere and within the framework of the Portuguese Speaking Community (CPLP) and of the African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP), in the sectors of politics, diplomacy, defence and security, education, health and transports.
