Constitution shows country's geopolitical strategies - Analyst

Luanda – The Constitution of the Republic of Angola, in its article 12, shows the country’s geopolitical strategies, stating that the Angolan State does not allow the installation of foreign military basis in its territory, without damage to the participation in regional and international organisations.

 
This was said Wednesday in Luanda by Angola political analyst, Belarmino Van-Dúnem, who was addressing at talk on “The geo-political position of the Republic of Angola within the context of national interest”, under the celebrations of the 13th anniversary of the National Defence Institute (IDN).

 
He said on the occasion that the existing dynamics at the level of regional economic organisations constitute a clear example of Angola’s geopolitical intentions, taking into account  that it has as its purpose to fulfil the juridical goal and maintenance in the international arena.

 
“Angola’s intentions concerning the geopolitical objectives can be found on the national consensus agenda, where it is expressed that the country intends to become a respected State”.


He also mentioned the various economic projects like those contained in the continent’s economic regions that have the purpose of promoting the sustainable and balanced economic growth and development.


According to him, there is also a regional geopolitics in Africa, in view of the common will for the implementation of regional policies and the division of the continent into economic regions recognised by the African Union.

 
In this regard, he mentioned the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Common Market of Southern Africa (COMESA), the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the Inter-Governmental Authority for Development (IGAD).

 
The ceremony of celebration of the 13th anniversary of the National Defence Institute was presided over the Defence minister, Cândido dos Santos Van-Dúnem.

 
It was attended by the vice-ministers of National Defence for National Defence Policy, Gaspar Rufino dos Santos, and for Material Resources, Salviano de Jesus Sequeira.

 

The National Defence Institute was founded on September 1, 1997.
