UNHCR backs repatriation process of Angolan citizens

Lubango - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) will support the Angolan government in voluntary repatriation of citizens living in other countries as refugees.

This was disclosed Tuesday in Lubango city, southern Huila province, by the assistant representative of UNHCR in Angola, Zelmira Sinclair.

According to her, the achievement of peace in 2002 enabled the creation of conditions for voluntary return of Angolan citizens in the country.

Addressing a tripartite meeting gathering Angola–UNHCR–Namibia, the UN officials assured that the process will begin this year.

The tripartite meeting, set to end Thursday, will produce recommendations for the kicking off of the first phase of repatriation process.
