Official points out priorities in de-mining process


 
Luanda – The National De-mining Institute (INALD) said Thursday that it will primarily focus on the operational maintenance of 15 de-mining brigades, training of other three and the setting up of a police canine unit for detecting landmines, in support of the activity.

 

This was announced Thursday by the INALD's director general, Leonardo Severino Sapalo, during a ceremony of donation of USD 1.6 million by the Japanese Government to the institute, to be invested in capacity-building project.

 

The official spoke of strengthening, this year, of mechanic de-mining brigade, whose national experts are in advanced training process on the ground, research and control of quality teams.

 

He also mentioned the construction of a workshop to produce parts and the repair of Hitachi and Minewolf de-mining machines, including of operational support, as priority of his institution.
 


The National De-mining Institute and UN Development Programme (UNDP) are implementing a joint Development of capacity building project of institute, funded by the governments of Angola and Japan, since January 2007.
