Parliament Speaker attends Namibian independence day celebrations

Luanda – The Speaker of the Angolan National Assembly (Parliament), António Paulo Kassoma, left this Saturday for Windhoek, where he will attend on Sunday the celebrations of the 20th independence anniversary of Namibia.

The National Assembly Speaker will attend the referred event in representation of the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.

In Luanda’s “4 de Fevereiro” International Airport, Paulo Kassoma, who will also attend the swearing in ceremony of Lucas Pohamba, elected for a second term as President of Namíbia, was bid farewell by MPs and the Namibian ambassador to Angola, Lineekela Mboti.

The Angolan delegation comprises the secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, George Chikoti, the MPs Irene Neto and António França “Ndalu”, the director for Africa and the Middle-East of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Nelson Cosme, and Maria Eugénia Neto (as a guest), widow of the late and first president of Angola, António Agostinho Neto.

Namibia became independent on 21 March 1990.

Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba was first voted president of Namibia in 2004, succeeding Sam Nujoma. Mr Pohamba will now fulfil his second term, after winning the presidential poll of 27-28 November of 2009 with over 75 per cent of votes. His party, SWAPO, had a landslide victory in the parliamentary elections.
