Angola/Huambo
Japanese diplomat assess Angola's demining programme

Huambo - The Japanese ambassador to Angola, Kazuhiko Koshikawa, who has been visiting the central Huambo Province since last Sunday, assessed the zones that have been demined through the funding granted by his government since 1999.

During his visit, the Japanese diplomat witnessed Monday in Santo António ward (outskirts of Huambo City) the official hand over by the British NGO “Hallo Trust” of 7 acres cleared from mines, plots on which were already built homes and one primary school.

On the occasion, Kazuhiko Koshikawa said that at least 1.9 million US dollars were granted by his government from 1999 to 2006 for demining projects in the country.

The ambassador recalled that Japan started sponsoring demining activities in Angola in 1999, with a donation of USD 82,000 made to Hallo Trust.
