Malanje – The United States of America spends one million US dollars a year in the fight against malaria in northern Malanje province, under the Roll Back Malaria programme launched a few years ago.
The information was released Tuesday in northern Malanje province by US ambassador to Angola, Dan Mozena.
Speaking at a press conference, Dan Mozena said the programme focus on distribution of insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets and malaria fight drugs to the populations.
According to him, the “Roll Back Malaria” programme is scoring progress as it is helping fight the diseases in the communities.
On the other hand, the ambassador said that his country has been sponsoring a demining programme in the province of Malanje, through the non-governmental organisation, Norwegian People’s Aid, that is also operating in other regions of the country.
Dan Mozena highlighted some progress recorded in various sectors in the province, mentioning information supplied to him about the region’s great agro-industrial potential.
Since his arrival in Malanje, the US ambassador has met with the local governor, Boaventura Cardoso, with whom he discussed various matters, particularly the programme of rehabilitation and development of infrastructures.
While in the province, the ambassador will assess the implementation of programme funded by his country and seek new cooperation opportunities.
