Lisbon – The Speaker of the Portuguese National Assembly, Jaime Gama, called on Wednesday for more engagement of the governments of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) in the materialisation of the programmes outlined by the organisation.
Speaking during the closing ceremony of CPLP’s 2nd Parliamentary Assembly, Jaime Gama defended the definition of clear, regulated and accessible programmes with specific fund.
According to him, it is necessary that the executive secretariat of CPLP inform regularly the Parliamentary Assembly about the co-operation programmes, the beneficiaries and the expected results.
The Portuguese top MP urged the CPLP’s Executive Secretariat to develop projects that can promote a greater co-operation among the member states.
Regarding the Portuguese language, the Speaker defended the need for specific measures aiming for better policy in relation to this matter.
The Second CPLP Parliamentary Assembly discussed subjects such as "Challenges and Horizons of the Portuguese presidency of CPLP", “The CPLP and the international political and economic environment", "Strengthening cooperation within the CPLP" and "CPLP, Portuguese Language, the new spelling agreement and the role of the international institute of Portuguese Language".
Angola attended the meeting with a delegation led by the Speaker of the Natioanl Assembly, Paulo Kassoma.
The Angolan delegation included MPs Cristovão da Cunha, João Melo, Luis Reis Cuanga, Lúcio Tomás and Lukamba Paulo Gato.
