Luanda – The Angolan minister of Social Communication, Carolina Cerqueira, Monday in Luanda, encouraged the women journalists to improve the sector, by helping identify the problems and eliminate stereotypes.
The official made the appeal during a ceremony of fraternisation with women journalists from all media organs, as part of the celebrations of the March 8, International Women Day.
The minister said on the occasion that women can and must talk over all matters in the media, contrary to stands that journalists should only deal with matters associated with the society, violence and family.
“I want women to speak about politics, to be commentators of politics, of sports, economy, at this time of important changes in the new Angola”, she stressed.
She also said she wants a larger number of women dignifying the Angolans and speaking to the populations, especially those that live in most remote areas, to which modernity, information is given through the Social Communication.
Carolina Cerqueira appealed to women journalists to be wise in their job, persistent in the fight against violence against women, against the social practices that humiliate and run against their (women) dignity.
In her speech, minister Cerqueira called the attention of women to play a fundamental and important role in the defence of national unity, integrity and dignity of Angolans.
The minister also wished those present to cultivate a spirit of participation, inclusion, with a view to the construction of a new Angola.
