Luanda- Angolan Foreign Affairs minister, Assunção dos Anjos, praised Thursday in Luanda, the figure of Sao Tome’s nationalist and poet Alda do Espirito Santo, by her character and humanism.
Assunção dos Anjos, who was speaking at the end of tributes paid to Alda do Espirito Santo on Thursday, at the headquarters of the Angolan Writers Union (UEA), said that she was a great woman and a friend of Angola.
For this reason, "I come to render the last respects to a human being, a great woman as Alda do Espirito Santos," he said.
According to the head of the Angolan diplomacy, the writer in a very young age associated with the nationalist and emancipation movements on the continent in general.
This struggle, he said, was mainly using her talent and flair for writings, through which poetry became a powerful weapon in the fight to rescue the identity of Africans.
He argued that this can be seen through her writings that claimed revenge for the injustices of colonialism, making apology to liberation and dignity of men and women.
"Just like Agostinho Neto, Amilcar Cabral, Nkwame Nkrumah, Aimé Cesaire, she raised her arms to mother Africa whose results can be observed today," he said.
Among those attending the homage at the UEA were the deputy president of MPLA, Roberto de Almeida, the ministers of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, Media, Carolina Cerqueira, the governor of Luanda, Francisca do Espírito Santo, amongst other guests.
The remains of Alda do Espirito Santo, who died Tuesday in Luanda, will be moved to Sao Tome and Principe yet today.
