Luanda
Constitution valorises lawyers role

Luanda – The chairperson of Bar Association, Manuel Gonçalves, on Friday here considered that the country's constitution passed in February, valorises the role of lawyers in the society, by rising their quality of mere assistant of justice to essential element of justice administration, Angop has learnt.

According to the lawyer, who was speaking during a dinner-conference under the motto ‘’The New Challenges of Angola Bar Association In Face of the New Constitution’’, the constitutional consecration of the figure of lawyer is the recognition of its importance in the construction of democracy and citizenship.

He also said that the 1992 constitutional law only acknowledged the right to defence, the judicial sponsorship to citizens and considering the professional as a mere aide of justice, an incompatible quality of the law-abide state.

In opposition, the new constitution is the guarantor of justice and law and advocacy as an essential institution of the justice administration, mainly in defence of the rights of the citizens.
