Geneva - A report by the Angolan government on human rights in the country will be analysed next Friday by member states of the United Nations at the VII Session of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism attached to the UN Human Rights Council, which is happening from Monday in Geneva (Switzerland),
The report discusses the main achievements in the domain of promotion and protection of the rights of its citizens, as well as areas still with weaknesses.
In addition to the government's report, there are other accessories prepared by the High Commissioner for Human Rights on international legal instruments.
Angola is being represented at the event by a delegation led by secretary of state for foreign affairs, George Chicoty, and comprising the deputy minister of Justice, João Alves Monteiro, who is expected Wednesday, and permanent representative of Angola to the United Nations in Geneva, Arcanjo Maria do Nascimento.
The UPR is an intergovernmental mechanism for dialogue and cooperation created in 2005 during the United Nations General Assembly, through which UN member countries discuss, among themselves, about the state of human rights and of fundamental freedoms.
