Luanda
Home Ministry to step up strictness in favour of security

Luanda - The minister of Home Affairs, Roberto Leal Ramos Monteiro "Ngongo", said Tuesday here that his sector will step up strictness and its role in fulfilling tasks of guaranteeing public order and tranquillity.

Roberto Leal Monteiro "Ngongo" was speaking during the presentation of the board of the Ministry of Home Affairs, which was sworn in on Monday by the Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, on the sidelines of the promulgation of the country's Constitution.

"We need to have an Interior Ministry with a better role, work, quality, demand, strictness and which is closer to the population. We are the protectors of the population and they have to believe in us", the official assured.

To the minister, henceforth the work of officers should be carried out based on opportunity.

"We need to correctly use the 24 hours of the day. We feel that we are obtaining the trust of the population bit-by-bit".

Roberto Leal Monteiro "Ngongo" reiterated the need to continue training gaolers in order for them to have tools that contribute to the treating of inmates with more dignity.

"Despite being deprived from his freedom, the prisoner is a human being and entitled to be treated like a man. The gaoler has to maintain the knowledge of correcting the prisoner and re-educate him. We will only be trusted by the population if we have such kind of officers", he stressed.

Concerning the Migration and Foreigners Services (SME), he said that there are fewer complaints against migration acts. He observed that, with digitising the services, all those schemes will be reduced drastically, mainly those regarding acts of foreigners.

However, he called the attention to the need for abiding by the guidelines of the President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santo, relating to "zero tolerance".

"We must be clear that our mentality has to evolve to a new world for a Third Republic with large transformations, beginning precisely with the zero tolerance," he stressed.

Besides the incumbent minister, Roberto Leal Monteiro "Ngongo", the new board of the Ministry of Home Affairs comprises the deputy ministers for Internal Order, Ângelo de Barros Veiga Tavares, for Migration, Eduardo de Almeida Ferreira Martins, for Correctional Services, José Bamokina Zau, for Civil Protection and Fire-fighters, Eugénio César Laborinho, for Administration and Finance, Margarida de Jesus da Trindade Jordão de Barros.
