Geneva - Angola's secretary of state for foreign affairs, George Chicoty, arrived Tuesday in Geneva (Switzerland) to attend the Seventh Session of the Universal Periodic Review "UPR", a mechanism linked to the UN Human Rights Council, which is happening since Monday.
During his participation at the event, member states of the United Nations will analyse the Angolan government's report that addresses the main achievements in the field of promotion and protection of the rights of its citizens, as well as the areas still considered weak.
Chicoty is leading a delegation comprising the deputy minister of Justice, João Alves Monteiro, who is expected Wednesday, and the permanent representative of Angola to the United Nations in Geneva, Arcanjo Maria do Nascimento.
The UPR is an inter-governmental mechanism for dialogue and cooperation, which was founded in 2005 during the United Nations General Assembly, through which UN member countries discuss among themselves the state of human rights and of fundamental freedoms.
It also identifies the mechanisms of assistance for their promotion and protection.
