Luanda– The bishop of the Angolan United Methodist Church, Gaspar Domingos, praised last Sunday in Luanda the act of courage and heroism of all patriots who challenged the Portuguese colonial regime on 4 February 1961, seeking for the independence of Angola.
Speaking to ANGOP, in the ambit of the celebrations of the 49th anniversary of the start of the armed struggle for national liberation from colonialism, which is to be marked on 4 February, the cleric said that this act also reflects the spirit in seeking the independence of the Angolan people.
According to him, the Angolan people expressed their disagreement regarding the mistreatment that they received from the Portuguese colonialists, so as to achieve the independence of the country.
This group of people knew how exteriorise themselves with practical actions, by trying to show to the world and to the nationalists that it was time to put an end to the exploitation to which Angolans were submitted.
He said that these fellow country people sacrificed their lives to conquer the Portuguese colonial regime.
On the other hand, the bishop highlighted the efforts of the Angolan government, mentioning how it has been consolidating the spirit of the Angola’s Independence.
Thus, the bishop appealed to the political parties, churches and members of the civil society to live well in this country where many people shed their blood to dignify the Angolans.
