Lubango – A total of 10,725 kilometres of road were cleared of landmines during the year 2009 by the National Demining Institute in southern Huíla province, in the region’s northern districts, ANGOP learnt this Monday from the provincial director of the sector, Dulce Venâncio Tito.
According to the source, a joint demining operation was carried out, which resulted in the removal of 200 anti-personnel landmines, 10 anti-tanks and 668 explosive devices of different calibres.
Although she did not reveal the comparative data in relation to the same previous period, Dulce Venâncio Tito considered the year 2009 as positive, and that the works were implemented, mainly on roads receiving optic fibres, totalling 10,725 kilometres of demined roads.
