Ruling party calls on militants to participate in Constitution debates

Luena – The coordinator of the supervising team of the secretariat of the ruling MPLA party's politburo for the eastern Moxico province, Bornito de Sousa, appealed to the organisation’s militants to take part in the debates of the Future Constitution.

The political leader made the appeal during the closing of the 10th Provincial Conference of appraisal and renewal of mandates.

He recalled that MPLA defends, for the future Constitution, a “non-bicephalous” model of governance, bestowing on the president of the Republic, elected by universal, direct and secret suffrage, “an active and acting role”.

Bornito de Sousa, who is also the president of the ruling MPLA party’s parliamentary group, said that “the top of the list” of  the most elected candidates in legislative elections should be the candidate to the presidential election, with no harm to the aspirations of independent candidates.

According to Bornito de Sousa, this fundamental view is reflected on the draft "C" of the future Constitution, called "Presidential-Parliamentary mixed system".

He also urged the militants to expand and be open in the discussions of other projects that will require more contributions.

The "A, B and C" drafts of the future Angolan Constitution will be  submitted to the central organs of state, parliamentarians and civil society for debate as from next week, before the process is continued in the provinces.

Meanwhile, the delegates to the 10 Conference of the ruling MPLA party in Moxico re-elected the provincial first secretary of the organisation, João Ernesto dos Santos “Liberdade, and discussed various party's issues and the socio-political, economic and cultural situation in the region.

The meeting elected a new Provincial Committee composed of 115 members and 75 delegates to the Sixth Congress of the party, set for December this year.
