Luanda – President Jose Eduardo dos Santos Tuesday in Luanda received a "positive" report on the situation prevailing in the Democratic Republic of Congo during an audience with the visiting UN special envoy to the Great Lakes, Olusegum Obasanjo.
The special envoy of the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon, arrived in Luanda this morning to report to the angolan head of State on the last developments of the situation in the DR Congo, during a one hour meeting attended by Angolan Foreign minister, Assunção dos Anjos.
Addressing the press at the end of the meeting, the former Nigerian president said that his visit is about consultations leading to the pacification in the DR Congo.
He said he has been consulting and receiving advices on how to resolve the situation in the DR Congo, especifically in the eastern region, pointing out the improvement in humanitarian issues, integration of rebel soldiers from the CNDP into the national army and the change of this military force into a political party.
Also at the level of the presidents, Joseph Kabila of DR Congo and Paul Kagame of Rwanda, there has been exchange of visits and of ambassadors, in an allusion to the understanding of March 23 between the two countries.
In general terms, he stressed, there has been improvements in the situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo, stated the UN envoy.
