Luanda - The Luanda governor, Francisca do Espírito Santo, Monday in Luanda, appealed to Angolan Government social partners to help fight and eradicate humans trafficking.
 

The governor was speaking at the opening of the national conference on human beings trafficking organised by the Interior Ministry in cooperation with the International Organisation of Migrations.

Francisca do Espírito Santo appealed to Non-Governmental Organisations, churches and communitarian associations to help with awareness, training and information on humans trafficking.

 
According to the governor, humans trafficking constitutes a drama of high spectrum and impact, and can even be considered as a new form of slavery in the XXI century.
 

She said the manifestations of the humans trafficking can never be looked at as an isolated phenomenon as, she added, it is associated with factors of exogenous nature, with international connections based on organised gangs generating high revenues.

To the minister without portfolio, the Government of Angola can not stand aloof, as the phenomenon has to be handled through a multi-disciplinary approach and requires a deep and serious attention.

 
The Luanda governor considered the Angolan Government’s organisation of the national conference as opportune, as it is taking place at a time the International Organisation of Migrations has launched an international awareness campaign against humans trafficking.

 
 
Francisca do Espírito Santo said organised and transfrontier crime, sexual and labour exploration involving teenagers and children, the gender problematic and family breakdown are factors closely linked to the phenomenon.
 
 

She said women and children are the main victims of human beings trafficking. The national conference on humans trafficking will go until Tuesday and aims at promoting awareness in the society on the perverse effects of the phenomenon, and equip the participants with the knowledge enabling them to fight the evil that affects mainly women and children.

 
The event is also part of the preparations for the African Football Cup of Nations (CAN2010) set for January 10-30, in the Angolan cities of Luanda, Benguela, Cabinda and Lubango.

 
The opening of the national conference was witnessed by the ministers of Interior and Justice, Roberto Leal Monteiro "Ngongo" and Guilhermina Prata, respectively, and other Government officials and MPs.
