Luanda – The speaker of National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, Thursday here appealed to the deputies for the redouble of efforts aiming at a constructive and participative contribution during the 2009/2010 legislative period.
The legislator said that the spirit that animates today the MPs is to face the challenge with redoubled optimism and high sense of duty, focused on better delivery to voting citizen who placed on every deputy the responsibility to contribute for a better Angola for all.
According to Fernando da Piedade, the positive assessment recorded in last legislative year demands from the Members of Parliament of a more effective engagement, aiming at strengthening the representative, legislative and supervising functions of the National Assembly.
The Parliament leader foresees to continue with the organising process, namely the rehabilitation of infrastructures and improvement of working conditions, review of basic parliamentary legislation and the holding of staff training.
He urged the Government to keep presenting programmes that match the fulfilment of the Millennium Development Goals, with the view to eradicate poverty, hunger, promotion of gender equality, reduction of child mortality, among others.
Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos also reiterated the support of Angolan Parliament to the Government initiative related to a quick solution to the situation of Angolan nationals expelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo, highlighting the duty of the Angolan State to protect the compatriots.
