Luanda – The Angolan government said to have already created the conditions to accommodate national citizens residing in refugee camps of the Republic of Congo and of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), in the light of memorandum of
understanding for peace in northern Cabinda province.
The Angolan minister without portfolio António Bento Bembe announced this Tuesday, in Luanda, at a press conference on the memorandum's implementation state.
According to the minister, the process is almost over, lacking only the repatriation of refugees, whose implementation not only depends on the Angolan government, as it also has to inform the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the two Congo Republics.
With regard to the diplomatic incidents between Angola and DRC, Bento Bembe explained that there is still information stating that refugees residing in sheltering centres are being protected.
To Bento Bembe, the signing of the memo has benefited all sides as it resulted from the recognition of special statutes for Cabinda and on the specificity of the province.
