Angolan Prime Minister returns home

Luanda – Prime Minister António Paulo Kassoma returned to the country last Wednesday evening, after having attended the Summit on World Food Security that happened in Rome, Italy, in representation of the Angolan President, José Eduardo dos Santos.

 

António Paulo Kassoma was accompanied in the event by a delegation that comprised the Agriculture minister, Afonso Pedro Canga, Foreign Affairs deputy minister, George Chicoty, the Angolan ambassador to Italy, Manuel Pedro Pacavira, among other officials.

 

The Summit on World Food Security happened from on 16-18 November under the aegis of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). It focussed on the urgent need for taking measures to eradicate hunger and poverty which are affecting developing countries.  

 

It was an occasion for Angola to present its trategies to combat hunger and poverty, as well as reaffirming Angola’s commitment to host FAO’s 26th regional conference for Africa, in May 2010.

 

On the sidelines of this event, António Paulo Kassoma handed over a message from President José Eduardo dos Santos to the executive secretary of the World Food Programme (WFP), Josette Sheeran.

 

The Angolan Premier also met with the chairman of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Kanayo Nwanze.

 

IFAD will grant USD 50 million to Angola in the next three years.
