Rome - Angola is part of a group of 15 african countries to benefit from USD 20 billion granted in the last summit of the most developed nations (G-8) to the poorer countries, according to the adviser of the World Food Program (WFP), Manuel Aranda da Silva.
"Angola will be part of this group since it has clear plans in the area of food security, nutrition and agricultural production to solve the basic problems of the rural"- the WFP official told the press at the end of the World Food Security Summit closed today in Rome.
"Angola is pursuing this objective"- mozambican born Aranda da Silva stated adding that contacts with WFP have been already made to technically support the angolan plan.
He explained that the 20 billion US dollars are made available progressively and the disbursement mechanisms have already been discussed, stating that the bulk of the amount will be channeled through a fund to be created by the World Bank and the other mechanism will be the bilateral disbursement.
Asked about the possible WFP return to Angola where it operated during the civil, the WFP official said that it depends on the government.
This subject, he said, was discussed today during the meeting between WFP executive director, Josette Sheeran, and prime-minister António Paulo Kassoma, who represented president Jose Eduardo dos Santos, at the World Food Security Summit.
"We are ready to return to Angola in a more massive way, not with emergency programs but with development actions"- he stated revealing that a WFP team will be traveling to Angola soon to discuss the possible return of the humanitarian organization.
"We will be working on a trategic relationship with Angola"- the WFP official stated.
