Ottawa – At least 35 Angolan children residing in the city of Montreal, Quebec province, on the weekend visited the Angolan embassy to Canada.
Guided by the diplomat, Henrique Assis, the minors visited the facilities of the diplomatic mission and seized the opportunity to take photographs during an event promoted by the Angolan community in Montreal, meant to commemorate the Angolan Independence Day (November 11).
The minors expressed delight at the craftworks, sculptures and paintings of the country on display in one of the rooms, and also did not lose the chance to take pictures of the works available.
After visiting the institution, children were sent to the meeting hall of the embassy where they viewed the symbols of the country, as the national flag, the emblem, the map, the main natural resources and the way they are presented to government officials and magistrates of the state.
They also watched a documentary on the history of the country from the colonial era to the present moment, with highlight to the major landmarks such as the beginning of the armed struggle, independence and the images of the Angolan Presidents, António Agostinho Neto and José Eduardo dos Santos, and the war that broke out in the country soon after the independence.
The visit ended with a socialisation lunch among children and staff of the Angolan diplomatic representation, in which they received some gifts.
