Namibe - The deputy minister of Culture, Luís Candjimbo, stressed this Monday here the need for including the Angolan heritage in the list of world cultural heritage sites.
According to Luís Candjimbo, Angola, as a member of UNESCO, deserves a treatment similar to that awarded to every member of the organisation, therefore defending the inclusion of its Historical Sites and Monuments in the indicative list of the world cultural heritage.
The official, who was paying a work visit to Namibe city, recognised this southern region of the country has great examples of rock engraved art that might be part of the world cultural heritage.
Speaking about some of the purposes of his trip to this province, Luís Candjimbo affirmed that it will serve to assess the current state of historic monuments and sites, foreseeing their insertion in the list of the Angolan cultural heritage.
He will also learn about the preservation state of rock paintings of Tchitunduhulo, situated in Virei, Makahama and Karaculo localities, as well as visit the Mbali art, at the district cemetery of Namibe city, provincial capital.
Luís Candjimbo's agenda also comprises a visit to the Historic Archive and separate meetings with employees of the provincial cultural department, as well as with cultural agents of the province.
A ceremony to launch the book entitled "Rock painting in Angola", of the French archaeologist Manuel Gutierrez, will be held at the end of the field trip.
