Angolan historical figures list drafted

Luanda - The Ministry of Culture has drafted a list containing the names of Angolan historical figures, following a study carried out by experts of the Multi-Sectoral Commission, to valorise and disseminate the deeds of the most distinguished national personalities over the time around the country .

According to a press note sent Saturday to Angop, the research, already in advanced stages, allowed the elaboration of a list containing politicians, intellectuals and religious entities belonging to the various socio-cultural areas of Angola.

Under implementation phase, the source also cited the building of the statue of King Ekuikui II of Bailundo Kingdom, central Huambo province, of the Mbalundu Cultural Centre, associated with the same figure.

Founded in November 2008, by president José Eduardo dos Santos, the committee, coordinated by the minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, comprises historians, anthropologists and architects, who have worked with traditional authorities and provincial Department of Culture on data collection.

In addition to cultural experts and architects, the committee includes representatives of the Ministries of Finance, Public Works, Administration of the Territory, Education, Defence, Former Combatants and War Veterans, Media, Urbanisation and Environment and of Housing.
