Luanda – The minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, Monday in Luanda considered significant the photo exhibition on the life of Cuban president, Fidel Castro, at the National Library, in the Angolan capital.
The minister was speaking to journalists on the fringes of the inauguration of the exhibition celebrating Fide Castro’s 86th anniversary, on August 13, during a ceremony jointly presided over with the Cuban ambassador to Angola, Gisela Garcia Rivera.
“It is a solemn homage to one of the world’s most important leaders like Fidel Castro who is celebrating his 86th anniversary and I think that this shows the level of relations existing between Angola and Ciba,” she stressed.
Rosa Cruz e Silva stressed that it has been accepted the proposal of the Embassy of Cuba that has been to the National Library to hold cultural activities, which pleases the Government authorities,” the minister said.
She said the photo exhibition is important as it informs about the passing of Fidel Castro by several African countries, especially Angola.
“We have a contribution with Cuba in the domain of culture that has been reflected on the internationalisation of the Angolan literature, with translation into Spanish of several titles by Angolan writers who will be present at the coming international book fair in Cuba in February next year,” she said.
She recalled that apart from literature, Angola and Cuba enjoy a relationship in the domains of music, dance and theatre which will be taken to the International Fair as Angola is a prominent guest.
“We are working with Cuban technicians who had been in Luanda and there is a team that will so travel to Cuba to follow up the editorial production, the translations of the works and other cultural productions that we want to take to that event,” the official also stated.
In her turn, the Cuban ambassador to Angola, Gisela Garcia Rivera, said the exhibition is part of a number of events that have been carried out to celebrate Fidel Castro’s birthday.
Besides the Angolan minister of Culture, the ceremony was witnessed by representatives of the Angola-Cuba Friendship Association and members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Angola.
