Luanda – Angolan writer Luís Mendonça last Wednesday in Luanda criticised the publication of literary works without quality, but with a complimentary preface or a condescending introduction. 

The writer gave this opinion when speaking at the “Maka a Quarta-Feira” literary debate, last Wednesday, in the premises of the Angolan Writers Association (UEA), held under the theme “The challenges of literary creation in Angolan in the 21st Century”.

Her said many citizens become writers for social projection and to be considered intellectuals.

 
Luís Mendonça regretted the fact that literary critics are often misinterpreted when they “show a new author the true way”.

“It is urgent that authors and literary critics together go up the ladder that leads to good literature, because it is only with great effort and unity that we can prove that it is not possible to disintegrate an atom (…)”m he stressed.

 On his turn, the UEA general secretary, Carmo Neto, corroborated with his colleague, also defending the need to improve the quality of the literary works that are published, despite the existing constraints.

He also pointed that another factor that contributes to quality literature in a country is the existence of more libraries and better access to books.

Carmo Neto equally slammed the fact that some Angolan publishers are more concerned about the profit than the quality of the literary works.
