Yeosu – The participation of Angolan Tatiana Santos in the Miss Songkran beauty contest of Yeosu, South Korea, was considered courageous and valuable.
This was said by Angolan participant, Tatiana Santos, who added that the event is a gate for the promotion of the image of the country and an opportunity to learn about the culture of Thailand.
"This contest served for me to learn a bit about Thailand. Each of the contestants were very nervous like me and were very courageous to take to the stage,” she told the press as she was declared winner of the event.
Tatiana Santos said she was emotional and did not expect to win, especially for her difficulty to address the public.
Tatiana Santos said that "in the beginning it was a bit difficult. When I have to speak to the public I feel a cold in the belly. But after that I relaxed.”
According to her, she participated in the event after she was told of the event by someone linked to the organisation.
In her turn, the director of Thailand Pavilion, Sumana Kajonwattankul, explained that the event celebrates the transition of the year in her country, which is called Water Festival.
She added that the purpose of the event was to find women with good external appearance and the election of Tatiana Santos will bring Angola and Thailand closer.
