Minister mentions Patronage Law as incentive to arts

Kuito – The Angolan minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, Friday in Kuito, central Bie province, mentioned the Patronage Law as a valuable instrument to stimulate artistic production in the country.

The official was speaking to the press on the fringes of the inauguration of the Arts and Culture Fair, as part of the celebrations of the January 8, National Culture Day.

Rosa e Silva said the approval of the said law by the National Assembly (Angolan Parliament), paves the path for art sponsors to reinforce their contribution to the sector, through funding artists’ initiatives, in favour of the promotion and dissemination of Angolan culture.

She said the Ministry of Culture has been giving an incentive but hopes that  the Patronage Law helps businesspeople to see culture as a market.

According to her, the law is so important as it will bring sponsors to support the country’s culture.

Approved in December last year, the Patronage Law is intended to foment, valorise and promote the development of the social, cultural, sport, education, juvenile, health and information society sectors.

It is also designed to provide incentives of fiscal nature, free the State from expenses that can be taken up by singular or collective persons and seek revenues to allocate to needy sectors of the society.
