Luanda – The minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva Thursday in Luanda told the new generation of researchers to follow the examples set by old fellow-researchers like Óscar Ribas and Jorge Macedo, concerning the discovery of more facts of the country’s traditional culture.
The minister who was speaking at the National Culture and Arts Award gala, said some aspects of Angola’s culture need to be improved and identified, as it is the case of cultural development focus in various domains.
She mentioned that these aspects are associated with music as the music and traditional dance festival should be repeatedly held to show that traditional dance is not what is usually showed.
The minister said there is need for more publicity for more valorisation and respect, adding that there has been some violation and disregard for culture.
The award was won in the category of literature by writer Maria Eugénia Neto, while the traditional dance went for “Ballet Tradicional Kilandukilu”.
João Morgado, a renowned drum beater, won in the music category, and Tomás Ferreira was given the prize for cinema and audiovisual arts.
Human sciences research went for Vladimiro Fortuna, and Plantic Arts remained with painter Mendes Ribeiro.
Central Huambo province-based “Vozes de África” won the theatre category of the award.
