Benguela
Archaeology museum suspends research work

Lobito – Whale excavation works and research at Dungo 4-5 Archaeological Station, in Baia Farta district, central Benguela province, have been suspended, due to the lack of financial and material resources.

This was disclosed by the director general of the National Archaeology Museum, Paulo Valongo, on the fringes of a visit paid to the institution by Angolan Culture minister, Rosa Cruz e Silva.

However, Paulo Valongo said he believes that with peace and economic stability in the country, the authorities will find ways to invest in scientific research, mainly in the field of museums.

The first known and published archaeological cartography work in Angola dates back to 1959 and was discovered by the team involved in the Angola Mining and Geological Services.

The National Archaeological Museum has currently 47 centres and 8,118 objects that tells the past of mankind millions of years ago.
