Luanda
Model of King Mandume status almost finished

Luanda - The model of the King Mandume monument, in Cunene province, is in conclusive phase, awaiting only for the opinion of the Ministry of Culture to make real the project, estimated at Euros 250,000, which will take six months to complete.

The information was released this week by the project manager, architect Francisco Jose to the minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva, and to the governor of Cunene province, António Didalelwa.

"The statue will stand in Ondjiva square in the city centre, where the king Mandume exercised power," he said. The monument, said Franz Joseph, will be a new urban centrality in Ondjiva and reference point for visitors.

Mandume ya Ndemuyma was the last of the kings Kuanyama, born in 1884 and died on February 6, 1917.

He came to power in 1911 and his reign lasted until 1917 and it was, however, become a charismatic political and military leader in the struggle he led until his death, against the Portuguese. OuvirLer foneticamente
