Luanda – The Luanda’s handicraft market situated in Benfica area, Samba district, is being roofed over with zinc sheets, as part of a plan to expand it and provide comfort to vendors and customers.
The information was released to Angop by the member of the market’s vendors association, Oliveira Manuel.
According to the source, the first phase of the plan has already started and will be followed by the second as soon as the members of the association pay their contributions for the purpose.
He said the market has room for 250 to 300 vendors, a number that grows significantly bigger at weekends, when it reaches 400, which affects comfort.
He said the programme of expansion of the market includes facilities to increase the comfort of vendors and customers.
Oliveira Manuel appealed to the country’s cultural institutions to pay more attention to the handicrafts market he considered as one of the main references for the valorisation of the national culture as it everyday hosts pieces that represent the tradition, uses and customs of Angola.
