Luanda- The participants to a workshop on the promotion and implementation of the cultural conventions of UNESCO (United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization) today backed the protection of angolan cultural heritage.
A communiquee issued at the end of the meeting stresses that the rapid ratification of UNESCO conventions can help to safeguard the national heritage.
The participants to the workshop voiced for the translation of UNESCO documents into the portuguese language and for the adhesion of Angola to the World African Heritage Fund to take advantage of scholarships and job applications.
According to the document, Angola could host courses of rock art to train experts from the African portuguese speaking countries, therefore the need to update the inventory of the museum collection of the whole country and of the heritage for its safeguard.
The participants recommended the necessary precautions in sending the dossiers of the candidacies and urged the government to ensure the protection of the history archaeological complex of Mbanza Kongo, the Cultural landscape of Tchitundo Hulu and the Cultural landscape of the Kwanza Corridor.
Stating that "the idea is not to conflict with Unesco requirements" the participants called upon the National Institute of Cultural Heritage to find means to safeguard the classified historical-cultural heritage and to set up a protocol of collaboration with different universities in Angola.
The workshop gathered 50 participants amongst government members, MPs, experts of the Cluster/Unesco cultural program in Windhoek, advisers of the World African Heritage Fund and top officials of the ministry of culture.
