Luanda – The "Grupo Unidos do Caxinde", established in March 27, 2001, emerged in the Luanda Carnival with a different format of the traditional shrovetide, trying to introduce modern aesthetic elements, grounded in the brazilian choreography.
The group, winner of the 2005 class A edition, started as a "giant" phalanx of "União Mundo da Ilha", taking to the Luanda marginal writers, musicians and journalists like Artur Pestana "Pepetela" and Jacques dos Santos.
The group took part in eight out of the 31 carnival editions in post-independent Angola parading 600 dancers, with white and green colours standing out from their clothes.
Different of other groups "Unidos de Caxinde" tries to innovate its revenue sources for the parades, promoting parties and competitions and also from the contributions of the members.
