Literary works by Agostinho Neto re-edited


Luanda- The Ministry of Culture will re-edit this September four of the main books released by the late Angolan poet António Agostinho Neto, as a way of enabling the new generation to better know or make contact with his literary works.

 


The fact was announced this Tuesday in Luanda by João Lourenço, one of the members of the organising commission of the International Colloquy on Agostinho Neto, to be held from September 15 to 16.

 


According to the source, who was presenting the agenda of the colloquy, the written works are “Renúncia Impossível” and “Sobre a Libertação Nacional”, a series of speeches of the author, “Náusea” and “Ainda o meu sonho”, which are a collection of Agostinho Neto’s points of view regarding the national culture.

 


Apart from these literary works, during the event the "Sagrada Esperança (sacred hope)" poem, with its re-edition under the aegis of the Angolan Writers Union (UEA), will also be available to the public.

 


He stated that the re-edition of these books is part of the strategy of the Culture Ministry of disseminating, preserving and recognising the written works of the poet, politician, physician and the first President of Angola.

 


Agostinho Neto was born in Kaxicane village, Icolo e Bengo district, northern Bengo province, on September 17, 1922, and passed away in 1979.

 


His bibliography also includes litarary works such as “Poemas”,” Sagrada Esperança”, “A Renúncia Impossível”, “ Quem é o inimigo… qual é o nosso objectivo?”, “Destruir o velho para construir o novo” and “Ainda o meu sonho”.
