Brazil - Seven inmates burned to death in a fire over the weekend at a prison farm in Rondonia, a state in northern Brazil, media reports said (EFE).

The victims were in one of the restrooms when the fire started during visiting hours on Sunday, Rondonia Justice Secretariat officials told Globo television.

About 120 inmates and their relatives were at the facility when the fire broke out, officials said.

Two inmates sustained minor burns and were transported to a hospital in Porto Velho, the capital of Rondonia.

The prison farm is being deactivated due to structural problems and 150 inmates had been transferred to other correctional facilities recently.

Police are investigating the fire, which appears to have been caused by a short-circuit, the Porto Velho fire department said.
