Brazil's Police Go On Strike

Brasilia - Members of the Rio de Janeiro Federal Police went on indefinite strike today demanding wage increases and the resignation of General Director Leando Daiello (prensa latina).

President of the Federal Police Union in Rio de Janeiro, Agent Telmo Correa, told the press that 70 percent of activity at ports, airports and in police stations will be paralyzed by the strike, but the remaining 30 percent of activity will receive police coverage, as mandated by law.

Since Tuesday, the rest of the Brazilian federal police went on strike and apart from a wage increase and the resignation of Daiello, demanded better working conditions, the hiring of more policemen and a restructuring of the course for agents and fingerprint specialists.
