Education sector in Luanda faces difficulties in terms of enrolments

Luanda The Luanda provincial education department director, André Soma, said Saturday here that his sector faces difficulties to secure vacancies in schools for thousands of students who have passed to the second cycle of the secondary level (from 10th grade) in the 2009 term.

André Soma gave this explanation during a press conference in light of the meeting he had with the municipal education officers and school directors with the purpose of defining strategies for the current school term.

According to the official, who spoke specially about the enrolment process of about 28,498 students that in the last school term passed to the 10th grade, there are only 21,904 vacancies.

He stated that in addition to the deficit of 6, 594 students who may be out of the education system, the province also has to sort out the situation of other already existing 15,997 people who finished the 9th grade.

Therefore, the official indicated that priority will be given to the students with ages ranging from 14 to 15, who have excellent marks on the main subjects, having into account the vacancies capacity of schools.
