Luanda – The Angolan minsiter of Education, Mpinda Simão, Thursday in Luanda highlighted the importance of mathematics as a science essential basis for the countries that aspire to reach economic, social and technological developçment.
The miniter was speaking to Angop about the International Maths Olympics held recently in Brazil in which Angola won a silver and a bronze.
He said maths is essential for the learning of other subjects, including languages whose mastering requires the rigour of its logic.
According to the minister, Angola is seeking to consolidate the system of education that places it at the height of the expectation of Angolans, with a view to a higher quality of participants representing the country in such events in future.
As he said, this will also help measure the level and quality of the country’s education system.
Four second cycle Angolan students participated in the International Maths Olympics held in Bahia, Federative Republic of Brazil, from July 20-28.
They are Pedro David, from southern Huila province, who obtained a silver medal, Santa Daniel, from northerm Malanje ( bronze), Ericson Domingos and Quiesse Silva, from Lunda (no medal).
